Infrared Sauna Benefits

In my last blog post, I talked about the benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy, specifically the effects it has on jet lag. Now you might be thinking to yourself, why would someone willingly “freeze” their body in the middle of winter? Trust me, you’re not the first person to have that thought. Even seconds before I go into the CryoSauna, I ask myself why am I about to step into a chamber at -176℉? Truth is, it feels amazing..when I’m done! So I just suck it up for the 3 minutes and get through it, but that’s a whole separate post.
Today, I want to talk to you about Infrared Saunas and their benefits. Just picture this: You’re stuck in Chicago for the next three months and the average temperature is going to be -20℉. Unless you absolutely love winter and not being able to feel your extremities, you may be looking for something else to do to feel warm and avoid the flu.
Peak flu season occurs between December and February. Right in the middle of the holiday’s and Christmas break for your kids. Nobody likes being sick. So what can you do to boost your immune system? Spend 30 minutes in an infrared sauna! The infrared sauna will increase your body’s core temperature, which then triggers your body’s immune response to fight off any bacterial infections. Sounds pretty good, right?! Keep reading..it gets better!
What else do you like to do when it’s -20℉? Stay inside and watch Netflix all day long with hot cocoa and Christmas cookies? Not going to lie, that sounds amazing right now, but we all know the consequences of doing that, the dreaded holiday weight gain. Studies show that individuals exercise about 5% less in the winter months as compared to spring and summer months. Now five percent might not sound like a lot, but it’s enough to cause the weight gain nobody wants.
What if I told you that you could still eat some Christmas cookies and then burn calories just by sitting in an infrared sauna for 30 minutes. Turns out you can!
During a 30 minute infrared sauna session, an individual’s core temperature increases and their body is forced to cool itself down through sweating. This healthy sweat results in an increased heart rate and metabolic rate, which leads to a larger caloric burn. Sweating allows your body to detox. Infrared saunas have been shown to release about 20% more heavy metals and toxins from your body as compared to traditional saunas. Studies have also shown that individuals can burn an estimated 400-600 calories per 30 minute session. I know you like that!
Now we’ve talked about boosting the immune system and losing weight, but we’re not done yet! I’m sure you’ve noticed your skin change in the winter months. Most commonly, our skin becomes dry and rough. Well it doesn’t have to be that way! Infrared saunas are great for skin purification. Saunas provide skin benefits by eliminating toxins from our pores and increasing the circulation in our body, which results in clearer, softer, and healthier looking skin. Who doesn’t want that?!
Most people do not know that there are different “spectrums or levels” to infrared saunas. Turns out there are three different levels and they include: near, mid and far. Each one provides different benefits. The near spectrum helps with wound healing and immunity while the mid spectrum helps with improved circulation and muscle relaxation. Finally the far spectrum helps with detoxification. A large number of saunas only provide the far spectrum. Fortunately for you, CryoPure Spa offers a sauna with all three! So next time you feel a cold coming on or you just want to relax and get away from your crazy kids, consider trying an infrared sauna session.
